Bayfront Canal & Atherton Channel Flood Protection and Ecosystem Restoration Project Construction Updates

July 8, 2022

  • The Project passed PG&E’s final equipment inspections, with construction of PG&E’s infrastructure, and subsequent activation, scheduled to begin July 27.
  • Arrangements for enhanced public safety are being made, in coordination with the adjacent property owners.

March 2, 2022

  • The installation of the intake structure’s trash racks has been completed.
  • The City of Menlo Park’s entrance gates have been re-installed, returning site access security to pre-project conditions.
  • PG&E’s final equipment inspection is scheduled for the end of March, with activation of their new underground utility service anticipated for mid-April
  • OneShoreline will be hosting a final punch list walk with the Project Team at the end of next week

February 21, 2022

  • The intake structure’s trash racks will be delivered to the site this week
  • The installation of the permant dewatering pump will be completed this week, as well
  • The paving of Marsh Road was completed in the first week of February

January 31, 2022

  • The outfall structure’s flap gates, which allow Project operators to interrupt the hydraulic connection to the Ravenswood Ponds, are being installed this week.
  • The paving of Marsh Road leading into the Park is scheduled for this week.

January 24, 2022

  • The major construction activities, which include the installation and burial of the underground culverts, and installation of the intake and outfall structures, are complete.
  • Coordination with PG&E to arrange for a permanent electrical power service progressing efficiently – anticipate commissioning utility service in April 2022.

January 18, 2022

  • The hydraulic connection between Bayfront Canal and the USFWS managed ponds was completed on December 22
  • The outfall structure’s flap gates are being installed this week
  • The backfill/burial of Stage 2 is anticipated to be completed next week
  • Re-establishment of the Park connection to the Bay Trail is expected by the end of January
  • Currently coordinating electrical component inspections with PG&E, prior to instituting electrical services

December 13, 2021

  • Installation of the box culvert sections for Stage 2 has been completed
  • Backfilling of Stage 2 anticipated to commence this week
  • Construction activities currently on-hold on account of rain

December 6, 2021

  • Excavations for extent of Stage 2 have been completed, and installation of stone bedding for that extent is also complete
  • Installation of Stage 2 box culvert sections continues; sections proximate to critical utilities have been installed
  • Flap gates at outfall structure are en route for delivery to project site; trash racks for intake structure will be shipped this week

November 15, 2021

  • Sheet pile driving for Stage 2 is complete
  • Excavations and bracing are ongoing
  • Rebar and form work for the roof of the intake structure begins installation this week
  • Work around several critical utilities is underway with the objective to complete prior to the Thanksgiving holiday

November 8, 2021

  • Community Update Meeting hosted on November 4; community members in attendance brought engaging questions and voiced their support
  • Excavations for Stage 2 are ongoing

November 1, 2021

  • Overdue rain in region; observed water levels in Bayfront Canal would have necessitated diversion through Project
  • Rain caused 24-hour cessation of work for Monday, October 25; Stage 2 construction continued Tuesday, October 26
  • Stage 2 includes all work south/east of Marsh Rd.
  • The Marsh Rd. realignment into Bedwell Bayfront Park is complete
