OneShoreline partners with the County of San Mateo and the twenty cities and towns within the County, all of which are contributing start-up funding to the District. Listed below are different projects with the county that are working towards building solutions for a changing climate. Click the projects below to learn more.

The Adopting To Rising Tides Program of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission supports multi-sector, cross-jurisdictional projects that build local and regional capacity in the San Francisco Bay Area to plan for and implement adaptation responses.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will assess several vulnerability locations, identified in their Local Hazard Mitigation Plan. The findings from the project will inform the infrastructure rebuilding work supported by BART‘s $3.5 billion bond measure approved by voters in 2016.

The San Mateo Countywide Water Pollution Prevention Program is an effort to reduce the pollution carried by stormwater into local creeks, the San Francisco Bay, and the Pacific Ocean.

Keep Foster City Safe and Dry is an effort to rehabilitate approximately 6.5 miles of existing levees that surround the City to retain FEMA accreditation and account for sea level rise to 2050 with an adaptation strategy beyond 2050.

Sea Change Burlingame studied the potential impacts of sea level rise on the Bayfront and other areas along the Bay shoreline. The project has informed policies and future planning efforts such as the zoning ordinance described above, and has focused on identifying a range of adaptation options. The project included community engagement to gain an understanding of the issues involved with the Bayfront.

Sea Change San Mateo County is working to address the challenge of sea level rise by working together with and providing resources to local governments, stakeholder agencies and communities groups to create a prepared and stronger San Mateo County.

San Francisco Bay Shoreline Adaptation Atlas is a science-based framework for developing sea level rise adaptation strategies that are appropriate for the diverse shoreline of the Bay and that take advantage of natural processes: Operational Landscape Units for San Francisco Bay.

The SFO Shoreline Protection Program is an effort to protect the Airport’s assets and operations from flooding from a 100-year storm surge and future sea level rise due to climate change.
